Like all good band names [what? Ed.], there are several myths and legends surrounding the naming of the band.

1. Including the word 'Blue' in the title ensured our on-line site would be included in 98% of web searches.

2. Like the Blue Pilchard itself, the band can be used as bait to catch larger fish [what? Ed.].

3. Rory splashed out on a spanky new blue fiddle from Bridge Instruments and needed an excuse for the expense The band had to be formed to cover up what would have been a hideously extravagant, self-indulgent, white-elephant of a purchase.

4. The band mostly resides in Sussex-by-the-sea, hence the need for a marine-themed name.
